Ed platform for Melbourne Online

In introducing the Ed platform to Melbourne Online, I played an important role in guiding its effective integration into both subject design and the broader LMS environment. Drawing on my prior experience embedding Ed into learning ecosystems, I provided informed advice on its strengths, limitations, and potential pitfalls. This expertise gave Melbourne Online a reliable foundation for its first exploratory implementation of the platform.

I collaborated closely with academics in the Faculty of Engineering and IT to reshape and refine their existing learning activities for delivery through Ed. This involved ensuring that activity design aligned with Ed’s interactive capabilities while maintaining pedagogical clarity and coherence across the subject.

Internally, I worked with multiple Melbourne Online teams — including Graphic Design, the LMS team, Ed Tech, and Content Editors — to create a seamless integration between Ed and Canvas. This cross-team coordination ensured consistent visual design, stable technical connections, and a smooth user experience for students navigating between systems.

To further support students, I developed clear, practical learning materials that introduced the Ed interface and guided learners on how to move confidently between Ed and the Canvas LMS. This holistic approach helped establish Ed as a functional, user-friendly component of the Melbourne Online learning environment.

Shoutout to Akane, Catherine and Leigh for their help getting our Ed approach and design almost ready to go.

Ed Discussions Signposting

Massive shout out to Melissa Baggoley,
Chris De Maria, Leigh Canny and
Akane Fujimaki for their collaborative work implementing the Ed Discussions signposting. This work lead by Melissa not only ensures that our students have a clear indication when to and what's involved in moving off Canvas to Ed but also establishes a templated approach for linking out external platforms. Leigh and Akane both contributed expert insight guiding the develop of page layouts, navigation, and just in time support, while Chris interpreted the intended designs and guided the deployment with systematic and scalable code. Truly an example of #own it together, #do great then iterate, #students at the heart, and #different by design. Also thanks to
Catherine Naghten, Kate Morgan and Samantha Eyre for their input on content and student experience. Well done all!
