Moodle completion/release gamified reward (PSY4111)

Motivated by student input from the GDP Design workshop, I developed a Moodle mechanism for allowing students to track their own progress through each PSY4111 module.

The mechanism included a gamified completion reward at the end of each module. The reward for students who if students do tick all of them off is a personalised 'Easter egg' designed in HTML with the GDP's signiature 'blobby' graphical style, and including each student's individual name data.

I tick them off so that I know what I've actually done and gone through. It's a nice way for me to go through things.

Awesome!
I think the way you've signposted it in the opening of the Module is perfect 🚀
This is wonderful!

EDF5772 Innovations in technologies and pedagogical practices

I used my expert HTML and CSS skills to redesign the graphic elements for Monash Online's EDF5772 Innovations in technologies and pedagogical practices for TP5 2022.

I adapted existing elements and emulated the established graphical design style reflecting the theme of the unit's content on gamification in online learning.

The following images capture my styling of standard Monash Online module overview and module review elements into a theme consistent with the graphic design elements.

The following image captures my styling of the Poll Everywhere interactive elements which I introduced into the unit in the TP-22 redesign.

This is looking magnificent! The content tweaks we discussed have been remade into fantastic, interactive, self-guided activities. I particularly like the embedded PollEv feedback tools. A great idea.
I am very happy with all of this. The changes to badges and the personalised journey map on each module will be a great way to engage learners too.
Thanks for all your work on this - I think it will be a very successful unit.

EDF5772 Innovations in technologies and pedagogical practice (TP5-22)

Build achievements

  • Revised gamified pedagogy reflecting gamification learning content.
  • Unit badging using Moodle activity completion mechanic to reward student completion of tasks.
  • Personalisation of student's own learning experience.

A former student of the unit, had the following reaction upon reviewing the improved gamification functionality:

Leigh, the unit looks incredible - and the functionality has been improved tenfold

I've had a pretty thorough look through this unit and I'm really excited about what's been done with it! ... It's looking really schmick!

Congrats again - really pushing the system. This is what I had hoped we could in a partnership with OES back three years ago when the partnership was just an idea.

COS30043 Interface Design and Development

Build achievements

  • Designed interactive code-along experiences using CodePen, allowing students can try the code they are learning in video lectures.
  • Used CodePen to designed challenge activities for students to test their understanding at the end of each module.
  • Implemented gamification elements with unit Badgr badging system in Canvas which rewards students for completing specific coding tasks.
You have made a significant impact, particularly in the BICT units. You led the build on COS30043 which had a 8.60 SFU score and a 93% pass rate. This is the only BICT unit to have such a high score in both areas in it's first iteration online.

That's fantastic Leigh and Georgie!

Great presentation and an amazing example of working together and bringing in the talent that's needed to work on challenging units such as this.

Good on you guys for having the initiative to seek out the right people and co-create.

Creating Interactive Content with H5P Workshop 2019

I developed the workshop, the content and the Moodle site experience for Creating Interactive Content with H5P, an Educational Design workshop in the 2019 workshop series.
The Moodle site contains resources to help Monash Faculty of Arts teaching staff develop their use of H5P (a Moodle integrated tool for developing interactive content).
Of particular interest is the 🏆Interactivity Challenge which is a 'gamified' experience that guides users through various levels of achievement in order to expose users to various different H5P content types.

Gamification Reward Badges

Using Adobe Illustrator, I designed reward badges for new VU Collaborate users who completed the Staff or Student Induction Training.

The special images would only be released when a user achieved completion of required assessment tasks.
