Subject walkthrough showcase: Leadership for Learning

Collaborating with a team of expert specialist presenters, I helped to deliver the first of the MO subject walkthroughs showcasing the Master of Education (Educational Leadership) subject Leadership for Learning.

The specialist area which I presented was about the navigational features in Leadership for Learning, and all subsequent Melbourne Online subjects. I focussed upon the Canvas modifications implemented by Melbourne Online user experience designers, and their impact upon future students' learning experience.

Leigh is a confident and engaging presenter. He ... volunteered to support me and a group of others in presenting at a recent MO subject showcase.

Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏  to Leigh,
Andrea, Emily, Simone, Erika, Chris, and
Catherine for presenting at today’s MO showcase of our subject, 'Leadership for Learning'—#owningittogether.
It’s no small feat to stand up and present in that forum, no matter how much preparation goes into it. It’s a challenging yet valuable opportunity to learn, grow, and gain the confidence to do it again… bring it on! 🤩  Everyone did an incredible job, and we should feel so proud of our collective efforts.🦚 This subject is a testament to how well we’ve worked together across teams to create something I'm confident will be truly impactful.🎉
Special thank you to Eileen for making the technology work.💻

Communicating for Wellbeing

I redesigned some convoluted assessment instructions which had been developed for in-person on-campus instruction, using my online instructional expertise to translate these into clear instructions for online students.

The assessment required students to interact with several learning platforms including a Cogniti AI agent, Feedback Fruits and to produce a video for peer feedback.

I completed the content editor feedback process for Melbourne Online's Master of Education subject Leadership for Learning.

  • applied the new MO template to earlier designed pages.
  • estimated times for activities' completion
  • adjusted Readings Online reading status
  • reorganised pages and summarised content.

Morning @Leigh Canny thank you for stepping in and completing this work, much appreciated as I know this took you away from your Cyber work for a few days.

Creating Interactive Content with H5P Workshop 2019

I developed the workshop, the content and the Moodle site experience for Creating Interactive Content with H5P, an Educational Design workshop in the 2019 workshop series.
The Moodle site contains resources to help Monash Faculty of Arts teaching staff develop their use of H5P (a Moodle integrated tool for developing interactive content).
Of particular interest is the 🏆Interactivity Challenge which is a 'gamified' experience that guides users through various levels of achievement in order to expose users to various different H5P content types.

H5P Con 2018

At the 2018 H5P Conference, I delivered a working paper called "Gradable Videos for Proficient French", to the global H5P community of software developers, content creators and academic educators. In the paper, I recommended improvements to H5P based on pedagogical insights gained during the French Proficient H5P Grammaire development.

Conference program

View the H5P Conference 2018 Program for Monday 03 December, 2018

Working paper description

The Challenge: Teachers in the School of LLCL: French Proficient 2 unit face the challenge of: Requiring students to prepare for class by completing grammar exercises. Requiring students to prepare for class by watching video grammar lessons.

The Solution: H5P exercises that integrate with Moodle gradebook Make gradable videos. IE: To build H5P interactive video which grades students according to how much (%) of the video they have watched.

Conference responses

Positive conference reactions to "Gradable Videos for Proficient French" indicated that my approach to H5P was stimulating and engaging.

@LeighCanny uses @H5PTechnology yo create a series of interactive statements with low-stakes assessable grades to deliver gradable interactive content - initial findings suggests it helps with #studentengagement, #studentmotivation and #studentlearning #h5pcon2018 X

Arts Teaching & Learning Portfolio

In 2018, I led a redevelopment of the Arts Faculty Teaching and Learning Portfolio intranet website.

I sought stakeholder input from Educational Design team leadership to better understand the intended functions of the site and its redevelopment. Consideration of user experience evidence and analysis of similar teaching & learning resources (especially in consultation with the Educational Innovation Community of Practice) enabled me to develop working models (such as the 2017 Mock Arts Teaching and Learning site) to illustrate how increased usage could be achieved by better connecting users to more engaging and relevant content.  I was able to communicate with internal administrators and external contractors to negotiate technical requirements of the Wordpress redesign.

This project demonstrates my collaboration with the Educational Design team, but also how I have helped share better understanding of educational methodologies and technology issues facing the wider Arts faculty teaching community.

Party Clown Website

In my role as Multimedia Design teacher at Victoria University, I developed teaching resources to demonstrate the process for completing the website design project for the Web Design Diploma Subject.

In my teaching experience, vocational education students respond well when an instructor embarks on an equivalent project at the same time, to demonstrate the planning, requirements gathering and implementation processes involved in a multimedia project.

The resource I built during this process for Web Design: Photoshop & Dreamweaver is the Party Clown website.
